Do not listen to this weeaboo trash in the comments, GIMP is actually just as good if not better than Adobe PhotoCrap! I hate Photoshop I swear to baby jeesus!

I just hate how Adobe has taken over graphic design. When I decided I had enough of them and canceled my subscription, they tried charging me a *cancellation fee*?! I told them I was on the verge of ending myself, so they waived the fee. There's a free hint for ya.
coming from photoshop here (and of course former windows user for most of my life) one of the few "tall" hurdles i had a difficult time understanding is how customizable Gimp is as a whole. I feel like customize-ability for a better comfortable end user experience is a difficult thing to encourage most people to lean into.
i'm honestly not too positive about GIMP overall, but it's the thing i learned and got used to years ago, so i put up with it. it's fine i guess. though i am leaning a bit towards Pixelmator these days.
i think im the reverse of the popular opinion... i actually love the UI and think it works great, but i feel that the toolkit is so limited even for my relatively light use. havent used it in a minute but when i did, cropping and cutting shit was so much more tedious than in ps
when my academic license fizzles ig ima go with affinity but i do wish there was an open source thing with the QOL of these
third adhd edit: in contrast, i think premiere and after effects fucking suck ass compared to stuff like davinci lmao
GIMP3 is great, I use it all the time. I haven't really noticed too many flaws with the UI, but I haven't used Photoshop in years, so I have very little to compare it to.
I also appreciate the usage of GTK3. I think when done right, it looks better than Qt. Qt seems better suited for complex programs with a lot of different menu options, so it's impressive that the GIMP devs made it work with GTK. I've seen some really sad looking GTK GUIs on Linux.
There's also a patch called PhotoGIMP that a lot of people seem to like: https://photogimp.com/
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like they finally got it ready for GIMP3. It's basically a set of UI customizations to make the interface look more like Photoshop's.
