A full gigabyte? I did consider a Fantom-XR at one point. How well does it work as a sampler (loading and modifying samples/patches, etc.)?
    it depends honestly

I'm not sure what the E4 uses, but loading a 128MB bank does take some time. I do think the limiting factor in my case is the ZuluSCSI, however. But a 64MB bank shouldn't take that long.
not sure honestly, probably whatever was available in 1994 if it's the original E4

With Rolands most of the time the real limit is twice what they specify as the max
though after getting 1024mb to work in my Fantom-XR i THINK they specified 512mb max just because loading any more than that will make you want to tear your hair out

Not sure what kind of RAM the old ones use but if it's the same PC133 that the Fantom -X uses then dear god I'm glad I don't have to use it (yet)
Is it supposed to be particularly slow? From what I've read, the original MOTIFs top out at 64MB of sample RAM. Even if you want to fill it up, it shouldn't take too long to write 64MB.

sometimes instead of saving them as a single file people choose to split a library in two (preset patches and the file(s) with the actual waveforms) so maybe that's what you ran into
You mean in separate waveform and voice files instead of "all" files? That makes sense. On E-MUs the only files are banks, but on the E4 you can browse banks and load individual patches or samples.

It's usually so that you can just load the samples in RAM and keep them there if you don't need them immediately and keep some free banks for other presets, it's convenient on older MOTIFs that use conventional RAM but very annoying on the XF but then again you only have to do it once

The file size is part of what clued me in. It's good to know that the dummy data is normal, however.

although you'll only find some pianos in the ES/Classic ones iirc

If you want to extract the samples from the few libraries that have them (you can tell which have samples just by looking at the filesize) grab a copy of Awave Studio from somewhere like Audioz

That would explain it. I thought the MOTIF keyboards functioned more like normal samplers, but I guess they also have built-in samples. I should probably give the manual a good reading.
no they're ROMplers just like its contemporaries

Xeraser Xeraser Most of the files in the MOTIF ES library you uploaded seem to contain dummy data only (the W3x/W8x files only contain the header and about 4K worth of 0xFF). Do those work fine on your MOTIFs if you try load them as they are in the archive?
