Demoscene has recently become my newest obsession. I have personally dabbled mostly into TouchDesigner and tried some processing after getting familiar with Joshua Davis, but the Demoscene is such a fascinating internet culture that I'm just drawn into it as a fan.

Anyone here into it? Please share your thoughts and/or creations if you have any. Or anything about it.

My interpretation is that this is graffiti in the realm of computer nerds. It's creating an executable program which serves only one purpose - to flex on the rest. Each demo is a unique real-time audio/visual experience, with most of them being ahead of their time. They may resemble a music video at first glance.

There are demoparties, where demo makers would compete against each other. They can have different stipulations, such as a limit to the file size (usually in kilobites, which is insane), or have to be for specific hardware.


Again, this is the interpretation of an outsider.

Nonetheless, here is one really good one. But keep in mind they can all be very different from each other.



I also plan on going to a demoscene gathering this weekend in Berlin if by chance someone here has the same plans.

The worlds largest demoparty is Revision, also held in Germany (April every year at Saarbrücken).

Those germans, they also created this opensource Tooll, a kinda node-based (not hardcode coding required) demotool that can do wild realtime motion graphics.

Yeah, I checked it out, but it's Windows-only atm, and I'm a dedicated anti-Windows user. But I have been working on TouchDesigner for a little bit now and getting the hang of it. :)
 
I missed out on an event a couple of months ago. I'll definitely keep an eye out for more demoscene events.

Likewise, I sport Linux. The irony is, in demoscene, the PC demo / intro usually by default means Windows. Sure it can be Mac or Linux too, but longtime sceners (FARTS LIKE ME) usually understands it as a .exe -file or some shit. Luckily PC stands for personal computers as it should, there are no stupid ass narrowing factors what OS it should represent as long as its a modern OS.

As a complete newbie, this was actually quite surprising to me. I thought that the type of people who would be into this type of thing wouldn't mostly be Windows users.
 
no way people compete over who makes the best niche PC demo visuals, crazy.
